The Starting Off Project Week Four: Bronzer

I'm not going to lie here - when it comes to bronzer, I'm a bit of a rookie. With my pale complexion I always figured that bronzing wasn't the way for me to go and that I'd always just look like I've smeared a bit of chocolate on my face, but after learning the best ways to use it I've finally fixed it into my day to day makeup routine.

Bronzer is used, as you can imagine, to give a bit of a bronzed look to the face, or it can be used as a contour. Some people use bronzer rather than blusher, around the cheeks and around the outside of the face. It adds colour and definition to an otherwise plain face.

The first one I've come to love has been the Bourjois Bronzing Primer, which is supposed to be used under foundation but I use it on top to add a bit of tan to my porcelain face. I dot this creamy bronzer along the underneath of my cheekbones and up towards my temples. I then use my ring finger to blend. If I want a really subtle look I'll even use a brush, I recommend the Real Techniques Buffing Brush or MAC 168

It's important you get the right shade of blusher for you. If you're pale like me it's important not to go for something too dark or orange toned, or make sure you get something really buildable, like the one I use. That way if you find yourself with a bit of colour over the summer, you can up the bronze on your face without having to go out to buy a new shade.

If you're after something a little more high end I've heard very good things about NARS Lagoona, which is something I'm hoping to get my own mits on very soon!
