The University Series - Gap Years

Happy Friday you beauties! I've decided to start a little bit of a University series, despite the fact that I'm not going this year. Infact, this is more of a pre-uni series, lending out some advice on what to do if you're undecided, how to decide, how to spend your time and all of that.

Now, as some of you may already know I honestly didn't have a clue what to do at University and I felt so under pressure. It may be hard to believe as it stands but there's really no rush at all. You're young, you have the rest of your life ahead of you, and it's an incredibly big decision to make. It's expensive, it's a long time. You want to really turn it into an investment, not just a really expensive hobby because it's what all of your friends are doing.

With my time out I've so far had three jobs - McDonald's *shudders*, the Manchester Christmas Markets and my little office job that I have at the minute. I have money in the bank, money to enjoy life with my friends and do a little bit of travelling in the process. I'm planning a holiday at the end of the year and I'm going to try to get myself on a couple more too before the University year starts when I decide to go. I'm going into Uni with no debts and life experience. No amount of reading can give you that.

I'm not going to lie, I do worry that I won't fit in with the younger people, but does that honestly matter so much? You'll make friends wherever you go. Life is a lesson, and all of that.

I was warned by so many people that if I get a job before I start Uni I'll never go because I'll get used to having the money and freedom. If anything, I'm so much more excited than I ever was to go to University now. I wasn't ready and now I feel like I can achieve more than I could ever have hoped for. I'm more confident. Don't feel under pressure to go to University right away! It isn't always for everyone.

  1. I think you've made a really good decision! I applied to university when I was 16 due to all sorts of weird circumstances and now I'm 20 and in my second year and I honestly hate my course because 16 year old me had no idea what she wanted to do with her life! I can't wait to finish my degree and go on to do something I actually enjoy. It won't be a waste of money because I'm going to come out of it with a good degree but I do wish I'd had more time to decide and actually do something I enjoy.

    1. It's ridiculous how much pressure people are put under at such a young age to go to University. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it isn't fair! I hope you find exactly what you want to do, babe!
